Watching the belly bloom- Stephanie’s Pregnancy Progression Session

About a year ago, I began a photographic journey.  A nine month commitment, with a miraculous ending.  Yeah, I know that sounds really dramatic, but it’s true, if you consider a birth a miracle.  (And, I do!)

So at only 10 weeks pregnant, Stephanie came in to the studio and we photographed the first week of her Pregnancy Progression Session!  Believe it or not, she already had a cute little baby bump!  Every Tuesday, we laughed a little bit as we discussed if she looked bigger than last week, what she had been craving, and whether or not she was going to run out of maternity clothes to be photographed in.

It was so much fun to be able to explore a variety of maternity poses that I wouldn’t typically get to photograph.   Knowing that the images would end up designed as an album spread, we tried to include a full length portrait as well as a close up, and that allowed us to be creative from week to week.

Of course, photographing the whole pregnancy meant that I got to document all of the milestones along the way.  One of my favorite weeks was Week 23, where we announced she was carrying a baby GIRL!  We had a lot of fun with pink Silly String that day!

Getting to document this journey is such a blessing.   I admit that I’m a birth junkie.  I love seeing a little belly bloom into a glorious round bump.   Feeling a baby kicking makes me jump up and down.  But, knowing that I have captured these fleeting memories for another woman?   Well, that’s pretty awesome!    (Birth story to come soon!  Even more awesome!)

Week 39, the journey is bittersweet.

Stephanie wanted to incorporate her grandmother’s scarf, so she wore it at the end of the pregnancy series and then we wrapped the baby in it during the newborn session. She was such a sweet little thing!

I do feel kinda strange posting a comment when all of the other commenters are women, but when I discovered Ashley’s WONDERFUL site/blog and mom-to-be Stephanie and her AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL pregnant belly,I just couldn’t go without saying something about them.First off,Ashley’s maternity photography is among the very BEST I’ve ever seen!!!Secondly,I want to share my reason for finding Stephanie’s belly SO APPEALING and PLEASING TO LOOK AT and hope that I don’t embarrass and/or offend her or anyone else by what I’m going to say.Besides her belly being so big and having such an AWESOME shape, she has a really NICE outie bellybutton that to me makes a pregnant belly all the more fascinating and intriguing!!!I know that many people(especially pregnant women)think that outies on pregnant bellies are grossly unattractive, but that’s simply NOT true and I for one ABSOLUTELY LOVE’EM!!!!!!!!!!!!!ReplyCancel
