Toledo Birth Photographer {Gentle Cesarean, Part 2}

Kelleigh’s “Gentle Cesarean” was a beautiful birth experience that I was so thrilled to photograph for her!  I stayed for the afternoon, long enough for both sides of the family to come and meet the newborn baby GIRL!  So it was kind of like they got a bonus Fresh 48 Hospital Session, and because of that, I decided to share more images (and her VIDEO!)  in this Part 2 of their birth story. 🙂  Make sure you read Part 1- “Kelleigh’s family friendly C-section.”

When Kelleigh came out of the OR, they skipped the recovery room and came straight into the original labor/delivery room she was in.  As a Cesarean mom myself, I thought this was really nice!  Dad held the baby while Mom was monitored and then they placed the newborn on Momma’s chest for a little skin to skin warming and bonding.  This sleepy little girl wasn’t interested in breastfeeding yet, but the hospital staff was amazing about supporting them through the skin to skin process.  No need to rush, the hormones are doing their jobs.

Peaceful moments after birth, and bonding during the “Golden Hour.” Momma recovered beautifully!

Once Kelleigh’s recovery time was over, she got right to work at checking out her baby girl!  She really wanted a girl, and we were all surprised at the announcement, so you can imagine how much excitement was in the air.  A daughter!  Pink!  She unwrapped her swaddle and checked out everything- her hair, her toes, her little wrinkles.  When your baby is first handled to you in a swaddle wrap, there’s something so special about “unwrapping” that bundle and seeing this amazing little thing that you created.

New parents, checking out every last bit of their baby. 10 little fingers, 10 little toes!

There’s something so amazing about realizing that these little feet were just inside, kicking the momma’s pregnant belly and then just like that… there they are…

I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a new father so over joyed and giddy to be a Daddy.  Judging by her grip on his fingers, I’d say she feels the same!  These guys are really such a beautiful, love filled family.  It was such a pleasure to get to be part of their birth experience.

This little girl was instantly a “Daddy’s girl!”

Wrapped around Daddy’s little finger, literally!

Grandma patiently waited in the hospital for the birth announcement, then had to wait again to find out if it was a baby boy or baby girl!  She was a trooper and I think this was worth the wait, don’t you? 😉   Shortly after, Daddy’s parents came in as well, and everyone had their turn holding this sweet bundle of joy!

      Thanks, Mary! Yes, gentle cesareans are so healthy for new moms and especially the newborns. It enhances the bonding experience, especially in that ever-important first hour. To be able to provide birth photographs during that time was amazing, and will hopefully show other soon-to-be mothers that they can ask for these options! Raising awareness, and slowly improving birth!ReplyCancel

  • Such a beautiful birth photography story. It’s awesome that the Toledo hospital they delivered at gave them the option of skipping the recovery room. I missed that first hour with my 3 children while I recovered alone.ReplyCancel

      I had to stay in a recovery room after both of my Cesarean births, as well. For the first one, they wouldn’t allow the birth photographer in, and I had not yet met my newborn. So for our first time meeting, we only had crappy snapshot photos, and they were taken by my husband, so we really missed a lot of great moments that should have been documented. I always feel like that was stolen from me, so I can completely understand. 🙁ReplyCancel

  • Oh, how sweet is this Birth and Fresh 48 Session you did at the hospital for this wonderful Toledo Ohio family? I love that you captured tiny details and all of the emotions that came along with his birth.ReplyCancel

      Thanks, Jennifer! I was actually lucky enough to photograph the birth, but I was there long enough after for it to be like a Fresh 48, as well! 🙂 It was a beautiful day!ReplyCancel
