The study of Light {Toledo Maternity Photographer, Archbold Studio Photographer}

One of my favorite things to photograph is maternity sessions.   I admit, I’m a total birth junkie.   No shame.   I just can’t get over how amazing our bodies are!   I’ve had two children myself and both pregnancies fell short (way short!) of glamourous.   But even still, I felt beautiful and I think it’s one of the most beautiful times of a woman’s life.   It is to be savored.

Sometimes, it seems as though photographers depend on a beautiful scene to create a beautiful maternity portrait.   I’m often jealous of those amazing mountains and beaches and everything in between, but half of the fun comes in controlling the light.   After all, I learned when I was in school that “Photography” meant “the study of light.”    A good photographer will study the shadows as well, and we know how we can use those to create shape and form and beauty- all on a flat surface.    This is why I love shooting maternity sessions in the studio!   (But don’t get me wrong, I’ll take a dreamy outdoor location any day!) 😉

Isn’t it cool how each mother’s baby belly has it’s own unique shape?   I love how you can tell exactly where the baby is in some of them.  If you want to capture this unique time in your life, call today to book your maternity session with Ashley Short Photography!
