Have you ever really wanted something, you know… like a birth photographer, and just thought it was out of reach? How would you feel if you found out that not only were you going to get your favorite birth photographer in NW Ohio, but you were also getting Maternity portraits and a Newborn session as well? Well, a while back I was contacted by an awesome guy named Jake. He told me he’s pretty much famous for surprising his wife with awesome gifts and her birthday was coming up. Could I help pull this off? Ummm… yes! I’ve done a surprise “Fresh 48 session” before, which was awesome, so I was excited to come up with clever ways to surprise her.
As Jake said, he’s the expert at surprising his wife, so we met in the studio a few weeks ago to discuss our Birth Photography options and make sure this was something that was going to be a good fit for his family. Usually, the dad is the one who is a bit leery about photographing “that”, so it was refreshing to see a husband come in and answer questions about his wife’s birth wishes! What an awesome husband! (Men, take notes! Are there any men on this blog? Probably not. Moving on…)
We figured out a way to get Kasey to the studio the night before her birthday, and she didn’t suspect a thing. This was a bit tricky for me personally, because I had seen her at our monthly Birth Circle, so I had to concentrate on not letting anything slip while discussing her birth hopes! But, we were able to pull it off and we even figured out how to get Jake in the studio (kid-free) without her being tipped off. (I picked him up at McD’s, which we realized probably didn’t look to good at the time! Ha! You know how small-town rumors are!)
So we get Jake to the studio, fresh flowers in hand. Cookies are baking, coffee and milk are ready, and Jake looks pretty nervous, I have to say. 😉 My husband was on stand-by to let us know when she was coming to the door. No one knew what to expect, but I think it was mix of confusion, shock, joy, more confusion! Kasey originally thought that Jake had showed up to get maternity photos done with her and she said, “I don’t want to cry and ruin any pictures,” so she still was thinking she was there to model for me that night, but really we were there to discuss her own personal sessions. Jake told her “Now you can have all the photos you want.” I think everyone was a little choked up and it was awesome to witness so much love between the two of them. From what I’ve seen between this couple, this birth is going to be so full of love that I’m pretty sure I’m going to walk away with a few tears in my eyes!
Happy Birthday, Kasey! <3
